368068 2005-06-29 16:09:00 Installed New Motherboard but having problems getting it going. It was going for like 4mins just enough time for me to have a look at the Bios settings. Thats when i noticed the temp (67 degrees) didnt think much of it at the time...however 2min later after i tried to install winxp it just turned off. Turned it on again and it lasted about 1min before turning off again. Next time i tried it all i get is the green power indicator with nothing onscreen. No hard drive light...the heatsink fan is still going but thats it...ive tried re-seating everything bit to no avail...have i cooked this motherboard, can i do anything else to solve prob and are those motherboard diagnostic cards worth getting? Thanks RayRay (644)
368069 2005-06-29 18:46:00 Sounds to me like the H/Sink may not have been seated properly and toy've cooked the CPU
Although depending on what the CPU is, 67deg isn't enough to kill most CPU's
Try removing the CPU, Video, Ram again and reseating everything again
Make sure you renew the thermal grease between H/Sink & CPU
If it's a P4, you have plugged in the extra 12v connector haven't you?
Might even be worth removing the board and refitting in case it's shorting out
If it's a new board in an old case ir the PSU up to the job (unlikely but you never know)

368071 2005-06-30 01:54:00 Overheating for sure.
You removed any backing tap, plastic etc from the CPU first, thus exposing the thermal pad? Then inserted it correctly. Then installed the HSF correctly - there will be a pamphlet with the CPU showing how.
The board will be OK but the cpu may be cooked.

368072 2005-07-01 01:09:00 i reckon the CPU is cooked and possibly the socket. but a new CPU put it in and try it. hoppo_8 (8203)
368073 2005-07-01 08:24:00 if your not sure on what to do now since it may be cooked, or what it checked out, go to your nearest pc store Prescott (11)
