| 367876 | 2005-06-29 03:02:00 | Pctek is most likey correct. The hard drive could be failing or there may be something loose inside. Yes, it's very serious, especially if you have important data on there that is not backed up. If you manage to start it, back up any important files immediately, then shut down. Take it to a tech to have it looked at. If you can't start it, take it to a tech, he/she may be able to recover your data. If it's valuable data, there are services that may be able to recover it, usually at some expense ($100's if not into $1000's) How old it the laptop, still under warrenty? |

| 367879 | 2005-06-29 07:27:00 | Take it to a PC repair shop to be looked at. Unlike desktops, you cannot pop the lid to take a look yourself. Your laptop manufacturer might have a list of recommended service agents if you don't know where to take it. | Jen (38) | ||
| 367880 | 2005-06-29 08:30:00 | Take it to a PC repair shop to be looked at. Unlike desktops, you cannot pop the lid to take a look yourself. Your laptop manufacturer might have a list of recommended service agents if you don't know where to take it. This is probably the best solution. However, if you are prepared to actually find and download the motherboard manual and also the Tech manual using another computer you may be able to fix it yourself. Jen is right in saying that a Laptop is not as easy to repair as a desktop. Having said that I have added RAM and new hard drives to Laptops in the past. |

Being as I know not a lot about what was or is on the hard drive in question and what was backed up before this problem I feel I am not qualified to give any help here. It may well help if we we know more information. |
