| 367620 | 2005-06-28 02:08:00 | Hi Folks, I have a 40Gb HDD that my Windows ME system reads as 20Gb. It was OK before my son got into video editing, but now I need the other 20Gb! I bought a second hand 20GB drive to put into another machine (I'm setting it up as a Linux machine), but before I do that, I thought I would transfer all the information on my ME machine on to the 20Gb drive, re-format the 40Gb drive with an overlay so that it actually reads as a 40Gb drive, then transfer all my data back. Presto! 20 more Gb. I'm hoping I can do this without having to reinstall all my software etc. Any tips before I plunge in and ruin everything? Any help appreciated ... Joe Davies |

Set the BIOS to defaults before you begin in case someone has changed anything Check the drive for any size limiting jumpers. To be honest if your board is that old that it can't detect a drive larger than 20GB then video editing on such a machine would struggle. I would try partitioning the drive first either with FDisk or Partition Magic or Similar first If the machine runs ME and is capable of video editing then it should be capable of recognising a 40GB drive What are the MOBO and hard drive specs? |
