368242 2005-06-30 11:08:00 Trying to open messages i get an error, then a crash, then a lock up of dr watson debbuging. Tried restarting computer and tried again, only to have rundll32 be corrupted by outlook crashing, ran chkdsk and it crashed again. Tried safemode restart, and no luck, it wont load anything past agp440.sys

I was thinking of backing up and reformatting sometime soon, do you think this is a good time to do such? or is this problem not as bad as I think it is.

368243 2005-06-30 11:21:00 What version of windows are u running?

And whats the cpu/ram in your system?? Is the CPU a Prescott CPU?

And also updating the BIOS, by the looks of it may fix it.

Cant do much else, if u cant get into windows, but to format. If u cant fix this prob.

368244 2005-06-30 11:22:00 what does the error message say? Prescott (11)
368245 2005-06-30 11:35:00 northwood 3Ghz, 512mb dual channel ram, 120GB HDD, 9600 Pro, XP Pro SP2
The error message is just jibberish hex in a message box, and the dr watson error that follows is just a message box with 'close' button on it.

368247 2005-06-30 11:38:00 There's more than one way to "skin a cat" so to speak.
If you have data you want saved then formatting is DEFINITELY NOT an option this early in the piece.
Some more info is required:
I assume because you can see the boot process is stopping when loading agp440.sys (your nvidia video card drivers?) that you are running XP.
Home or Pro?
Can you actually boot to desktop in Normal Mode, I assume you can as you refer to opening messages in Outlook?
Do any other programs crash when running them?
Have you installed any new apps, hardware or windows updates prior to the problem?
The more info you can provide will help to slove the problem

By the looks of WHAT, you haven't got any info on his specs yet!

What the hell! what about any data he may want to save before a format.

You can also run it from within windows sfc /scannow along with various switches.
Your friends advice was sound and one of the logical steps to take before BIOS updates & random formats
Good to see you're up & running again
