368175 2005-06-30 10:05:00 I'm in Firefox at the moment but prefer Opera. Whatever, both are good.

Perhaps someone can help - the two things I can't find in Firefox are:

Upon launch, I'd like to immediately have the 8 or so tabs I had open yesterday instead of having to individually reopen them.

And I can't find a search function for Bookmarks, History etc. I keep about 400 bookmarks and can search them in Opera in a couple of seconds.

In fairness Firefox seems to access a few pages which didn't like Opera.

You need to keep IE for some pages such as government departments.

And Microsofts Update page (or do they finally allow Alternate browsers?)

368177 2005-06-30 10:11:00 No, u dont need IE to go to govt sites. Opera works fine with them. Speedy Gonzales (78)
368178 2005-06-30 10:16:00 The Firefox search for bookmarks: Whilst in Firefox

Bookmarks/managebookmarks, you will find the search bar is the third bar down, start to type in anything you remember about the bookmark you are looking for and Firefox will find it for you at the same time you are able to zero in on what you want.

For the first one there is an extension called session saver
extensionroom.mozdev.org

For bookmark search go to bookmarks ->Manage bookmarks
and there is a search function there.

368181 2005-06-30 10:23:00 Operating aPC with XP (SP2) and thinking about changing from IE6 and Outlook Express.

Have heard of Firefox/Thunderbird but know nothing about them. Any comments on suitability and precautions about installation?

Cheers

Gillie

Download both Opera and Firefox have a play around with both and you will
soon work out which one you like better.
Opera comes with alot of cool things already added.
Firefox you have to download extensions to get some cool things.
Both are better than IE.

Have the bookmarks displayed on the left side, right click a folder, select open in tabs.

It may mean putting your eight starting pages in the one folder.

And if your still using the skin I set as default then you would be well served finding one more to your liking.

368184 2005-06-30 11:13:00 ive been using firefox and thunderbird for quite a while now, i like the tabbed browsing and how more secure it is compared to IE. but the best thing about it is the AdBlock extenstion which blocks the ads from websites, an excellent piece of software. there are many useful extenstions out there

and also you can get portable firefox and thunderbird which you can put on your flash drive and take it around, very handy indeed
