| 369110 | 2005-07-04 02:35:00 | Hi, Would anyone be able to refer me to a rather small and decent data retrieval type of program? I want to see if I can extract some deleted data from an abandoned computer that I picked up from the side of the road. This computer is not the latest having no USB ports, DVD drive, and the CD Rom drive is completely screwed, can't get it to work. It does however still have a floppy drive that still functions properly. Cheers, |

And besides, there's always that sheer curiosity when you get play around with old thrown out PC's, regardless of who or where it came from. | Bazman (6587) | ||

LOL, you might become a man of international mystery I'd be looking over my shoulder for a while And make sure you have wiped your prints from the PC in case our super efficient SIS do a dawn raid  |

Data destruction in laptops was a real problem for the chinese army. They tried all sorts of secure delete programs and so forth, but keypress combinations to activate them were either too hard for an emergancy, or too easy and happened all the time. Not to mention secure deletes take a LONG time to run. Finally someone came up with a solution... a target painted over the HDD on the laptop with "in case of capture, shoot laptop here" written on it. I guess phsyical destruction is the fastest way to kill your data. -Qyiet |
