368917 2005-07-03 06:32:00 Hi

I have a problem here which I can't seem to fix!
I have a secondary hard drive installed on my PC -- it is an 80GB drive which gives you about 75GB in real life.
There is nothing data-wise or application wise on the drive yet Windows (My Computer/Drive Icon/Properties) is telling me that 6.54GB is used and 67.9GB is free!!
Partition Magic is also reporting that part of the drive space is used/filled so just can't understand what is going on.
I have tried defragmenting the drive, cleaning out the Recycle Bin etc but still no change!
Just don't see how Windows can be reporting that part of the drive is ued when plainly it isn't!!

Machine Specs:
Windows XP Pro (SP2)
P4 3.0GHz
768MB RAM
160GB Primary HDD
80GB Secondary HDD

Any suggestions to why this happening and how to fix it?!

368918 2005-07-03 06:52:00 Would having System Restore set to monitor that hard drive account for that data "useage"? (might be bit of a long shot :p) Jen (38)
368919 2005-07-03 07:03:00 Thanks for the suggestion Jen but have already turned System Restore off!
Any other suggestions?

368920 2005-07-03 07:05:00 The other thing it might be is a copy of the Master File Table (one is put near the middle of the physical drive, in case the main MFT is corrupted in some way.
Its an XP thing

368921 2005-07-03 07:21:00 don't forget there is a difference in the way hardrive space is measured so in windows it will always look smaller. add losses due to formating and you can end up with quite a lot "missing". tweak'e (69)
368922 2005-07-03 08:12:00 Reformat it. pctek (84)
368923 2005-07-03 08:26:00 To PCTek: Thanks I will try reformatting it.
To Tweake'e: You ahve obviously misunderstood my original post; the space ain't missing -- it's just reported as being used when it aint!

Thanks PC Tek
