369858 2005-07-06 05:54:00 Of late I have noticed that when I open System in the Control Panel Windows XP Home does not display my CPU type under the Generalat all, all that is displayed now is the amount of RAM I have.

I thought maybe it was because I have SP2 installed but I had a look at my Compaq laptop (which aslo has SP2 installed) and it displays the CPU type as well as the amount of RAM in the General Tab.

How do I get it to display my CPU type and more importantly why did this information disappear? I know it seems a trivial matter but as far as I'm concerned if it's not normal then something's wrong.

cheers

369861 2005-07-07 05:47:00 It means that Microsoft XP has destroyed the CPU, and now there's just a little pile of silicon dust loosely glued to the heatsink. There's just enough intelligence in the video card and the keyboard controller to hand over all your processing to a CPU at Microsoft headquarters. They are determined to keep track of what you download.

:D

369862 2005-07-07 06:01:00 So is there a fix for this or is it one of those problems we all assume MS doesn't give a RAT's ASS about... wait hang on that's right MS doesn't give a RAT'S ASS about anything.

cheers

369863 2005-07-07 06:10:00 They know it's wrong. ;) Just be glad they haven't fixed it.

Fix: Give it a bigger string space.
Programmer thinks: "No one would or could ever give it a string longer than that (after all, the thing was failing because the string was too long) , so we don't need to check for overflow".
Result: Critical security update required.
