369268 2005-07-04 09:22:00 I currently have a Soltek SL-KT400-C/KT400-A4C motherboard and a
AMD Athlon XP, 1833 MHz (11 x 167) 2500+ cpu.

According to "Everest Home Edition" my cpu temp is about 43 °C (109 °F) when idle. I have a Igloo 2460 fan on it.

Just wondering what temp should the cpu be running at?

ANd also what should Motherboard and hdd temps be around?

Thanks as always.

M.

369269 2005-07-04 09:33:00 its all relative to one another. room temp effects case temps which effect cpu temps.

case temp wants to be kept down to within 5 degrees of room temp. also keeping case temp down to under 40 degrees makes the hardrives etc last so much longer.

Thats OK. However do you play games? That can cause it to go up a LOT. I persobally don't like to see my CPU go higher than say 49, but its rated to 85 degrees. Not that you'd want it to get that high...

369271 2005-07-04 11:11:00 Your temp is fine. Here (139.95.253.213 j(1224)) is some info, a while ago I read there that most of the socket A barton chips idle at 60.

I know my 3200 did.

369272 2005-07-04 12:36:00 My P4 2.8Ghz laptop idled between 49 and 61 degrees.... Chilling_Silence (9)
369273 2005-07-04 21:39:00 MAybe they did idle at those temps. I have had both a 2000+ And a 2700+ but which were around 51. Not being happy with that I changed the stock cooler for a better one.
Likewise with my 3500+ now.

369274 2005-07-05 00:00:00 Great thanks for the info....

I don't play any graphic intensive games, just mainly a fair bit of audio editing and general day to day surfing etc...

I have been looking at adding a case fan to the front and back of my machine to help pass air through the case. But I might pass on that idea if these temps are ok.

Thanks again for all the help!

so what was the case and hardrive temps?

i would fill the rear fan locations with fans. don't worry about the front ones unless they are really needed.
