369179 2005-07-04 04:38:00 I am planning to build my next "best value for money" gaming machine which I will also use for some video editing, but nothing else.
I don't have any immediate overclocking plans.
I've selected the following components so far, but I'm not sure how they will work together :

MB: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice core
Ram: Geil Ultra X PC3200 (2x512MB dual channel kit)
Graphics: MSI RX800XL-VT2D256E with VIVO
HD: WD Raptor WD740 (would 2 in raid 0 result in noticeable speed gain or would it be overkill?)
PSU: AcBel EPSV2.1 OEM 450W

1. Main problem: Does anyone know when, if at all, the 3800+ Venice core will arrive in NZ?
(All the other Venice versions are now widely available)

2. Also: I'm thinking about getting 2GB of memory instead.
Do they have to be 2 matched pairs of 512MB sticks or can you use just about any combination with venice?

3. Case: I'm still trying to find a good, cool (as in low-temp) case. Any sugestions?

4. Overclocking: In case I decide to do this in the future, would this system be suitable?

For the video editing I will need a second HD and DVD writer, which?
I guess just about any cd or dvd reader will do for the gaming.

Any expert advice/opinions/comments will be much appreciated especially on the 3800+ Venice!

For dual channel, yes. Better anyway evn if not dual channel.

www.overclockers.co.nz and check some reviews of them as well.

I can't see a problem.

As for the CPU, a quick google found a number of retailers advertising theis particular core.

369181 2005-07-04 12:39:00 Ive not had good luck with WinXP x64 and my Radeon 9250 card.. Admittedly Im told there's better support on x64 for newer cards like yours.... but yeah :-/ Chilling_Silence (9)

I've had contact with PCAlpha and others in the past few weeks, but none of them has the 3800+ Venice :(

Are there any pitfalls when buying it in Aus or the USA?
