369606 2005-07-06 02:43:00 Ah that data is invalid error, is a known registry protection problem in XP.

You have to go into the registry and give it permission.

Go to Start, Run... and type "regedit" without the quotes to run the Registry Editor. Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\P CI

and you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx". Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the hardware you are trying to install. Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' and then tick "Allow" for "Full Control". Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your device.

The only prob is, for every pci device u install on this system, you have to do this every time. Formatting might fix it. As this error doesn't appear on every version of XP.

369607 2005-07-06 02:55:00 Hmmm... sounds promising. I will hop back on the other drive and try that out in a minute, but do I need to uninstall everything again, or just do the registry fix and direct it to the updated drivers folder to install?

Both of these Windows installs are from exactly the same CD, the only difference is that the other drive has SP2 and most of the updates and this one does not. This one is not registered yet, either. :p

369608 2005-07-06 03:09:00 No, no need to uninstall any programs etc .

All u have to do is the registry fix . And give whatever device permission .

If it still comes up with the data is invalid error, after u edit the registry / exit regedit, reboot, and then try to install the drivers . It SHOULD work .

If XP is from the same CD, it may or will lock u out after so long, if u dont activate it . . .

369610 2005-07-06 05:20:00 Good to hear its up and running :)

The easiest way to record with that tuner is to plug video out from a VCR / whatever into that socket into the back . You may need an adaper .

You can use the leadtek program, and switch it to CVBS or S-Video, whatever the input says on the back .

Dont forget to plug the sound (you may need an RCA - 3 . 5 mm adapter for this), and plug it into Line IN, on the soundcard . This will record the sound from whatever . And dont forget to tick Line In in sounds . Or u wont hear anything! Hopefully, u have a BIG hdd on that system . Recording from an external device takes a lot of hdd space . Depending on what format u record in .

I recorded the live 8 concert/s with the Deluxe tuner lol . This made a 27 . 5 GB mpeg! About 9 . 15 hours total .

I'm in the process of editing it, so I can make a few dvd's of the coverage .

I've made 2 of 1 . 5 hrs each . About 3 . 5 - 4 GB . I think there's about 2 more to go . . . .

369611 2005-07-06 05:48:00 The easiest way to record with that tuner is to plug video out from a VCR / whatever into that socket into the back . You may need an adaper . For recording TV programs you mean? Oh heck . . . the VCR is on the other side of the room, four metres away . :(

At the moment I want to transfer our home videos from an analogue camera to the hard drive, edit out the junk and burn the results to DVDs for playing in the DVD player .

I will be wanting to record TV programs later on but I have to organise the aerial before I can do that (might be another thread coming up soon :p) .

Hmmm . . . lots of hard drive space . . . that will be the next thing to organise, methinks . :D

369612 2005-07-06 05:55:00 Same thing will apply with a video camera . Exactly the same as if u were using a VCR . If the camera has video/audio in out on it .

No u dont need a VCR to record TV programs .

The leadtek program

. leadtek . com . tw/eng/support/download . asp?downlineid=66&downline=WinFast%20PVR%20" target="_blank">www . leadtek . com . tw(Application%20software)

for the tuner, lets u watch and record local channels besides SKY . All u need is an aerial .

The program also gives u the option to either to record to hdd in Mpeg format, or record directly to DVD .

Depending on how old, or modern your DVD player is (if it isnt a PC DVD), not all burned DVD's will play in any stereo . Or external DVD player .

369613 2005-07-06 06:06:00 Yep, that program is the one I installed earlier instead of the one off the installation CD . Need to install the other software now, for the video editing .

The DVD player is around two years old so hopefully that is not too out of date .

Thanks for all your help Speedy, much appreciated .
