369321 2005-07-04 21:58:00 What will it be used for? Good question, as I am trying to assemble a collection of software before we have even bought the PC. (She currently has an 8-year old machine running Win95). I suspect it will be only get used for cropping pics, maybe removing red-eye, a bit of image quality improvement. For ease of use. Picasa.

It will do all the things you just described faster and easier than anything else I've used.

369322 2005-07-04 22:27:00 Picasa2 is quite good but I have become very attached to FastStone Image Viewer for managing my pictures even though it is a much bigger program than Irfanview and Picasa as it has quite a few really neat features that the other two do not have .

I use all three all the time depending on what task I am doing so I would recommend that you include them all as well .

FastStone was recommended by someone here but I have forgotten who .

369324 2005-07-04 22:49:00 gidday,

This is a relatively new editor, I havn't used it as yet, but it looks promising

One thing about the brother multifuction printers (I found this out yesterday)
It has four printing heads, which are cheap to replace, however, the machine
will stop completely when ink runs out of any one of them. It wont run on
like a HP or epson, and if you have say three heads empty, you will need to buy the three before the printer can be used. the scanner and fax system
all lock as well when ink cartridges are empty.

cheers,

Robby

369325 2005-07-04 23:02:00 Only the fact that I would have to pick up the pieces has stopped me from laying waste to my Brother MFC with a sledgehammer .

And only the fact its not actually broken has stopped me putting it down the dump .

Free to a good home, anyone wants it all they have to do is pop in and ask . . . .

(no scanner though, Just printer,fax,phone,copier)

369326 2005-07-05 01:13:00 I don't do any editing myself and don't know if it's the right thing for you but I would check out www.Irfanview.com anyway.....m mark c (247)
369327 2005-07-05 04:35:00 You could do it for less than $1500.I'm trying to get a balance between price and quality, both of product and after sales support. I arrived at that figure after a trawl through the TL systems website. I have used them for a few years now, and consistently find them to be good quality and very good support. As I said, I don't want to have to provide on-going tech support any more than is absolutely necessary. I'm open to suggestions for other sources (in Auckland) though.

And how about OpenOffice???? isn't that the first one on my list?

369329 2005-07-05 05:03:00 I use Version 7.4 of paintshopro.
Its 3 versions back (I think) so you can easily get it for free, or I imagine discounted.
Does everything I need and easy to use.

Endless cleaning cycles, Damn thing ran out of colour ink and refused to print anything after that .

$120 spent on more colour catridges so I could carry on printing in black .

What got my Gizzard is that I do/done no colour printing, the damn pile of junk used them all up with its cleaning cycles .

Money isn't cheap, It got the biffo and I purchased a laser printer .

I'm told they may have rectified the issues that my unit has, though I know of numerous others who have been slapped around the face with the same crapola from Brother MFC's . . . . .

Do I have a recomended replacement?

Nope, Inkjet Printers are like televisions shows, Utter rubbish no matter how good the blurb looks .
