369864 2005-07-06 06:12:00 Hi

My parents are currently overseas and a family member in America has a xbox ( from Usa ) that can will give to us. yet im wondering if there is a power converter to convert the american voltage to the new zealand one.
I know the nz games will be incompatible on it yet we could just import them

369865 2005-07-06 06:54:00 if its 100-120V you may need a step transformer for NZ usage. Nomad (952)

369867 2005-07-06 11:03:00 Dick Smith would be my first port of call. Have you looked at the site? DSE NZ on Google. I wonder if the difference in frequency would worry it, US 60hz, NZ 50hz. Would make a difference in clockspeed/timing, perhaps? PJ Poppa John (284)
369868 2005-07-06 11:40:00 Really it may not be worth the hassle?

A 100 watt stepdown is about $120, 125 watts will be more.

Then there could be an issue of PAL vs NTSC. Google suggests its an issue with the Xbox, and it could depend on the ability of the TV used to even display properly on NTSC based video output.

369869 2005-07-06 11:55:00 they sell the NZ internal powersupplies on Trademe, and places like x-mods sell them as well.

Pretty sure Pal/nstc is a setting in the xbox that can be changed by gui rather then beiung hardwired in.

Even then I ran NSTC games on my pal Xbox....

369870 2005-07-07 04:26:00 Try x-mods, they'll replace the PSU

Otherwise PM me and I'll put you in contact with somebody else in Auckland who'll do it, possibly (probably) cheaper than X-mods.

369871 2005-07-07 04:27:00 BTW - Metla's right, Pal/Ntsc can be changed from within EvoX. Not sure about the MS Dash though. Chilling_Silence (9)

But that is only if the XBOX has a mod chip in it.
