370181 2005-07-10 10:40:00 Furhter to the advice so far, it might be a good idea to change the port the client uses (usually 6881 or thereabouts), to something else. Some clients have a manual and/or random port settting.
This can be useful as ISP's seem to have realised how much P2P chews up in bandwidth and from what I understand they restrict the speed of packets? of data that use the port 6881 or other ports used by popular P2P programs.
My currrent client uses a random port, but when I was usinng Azurues I had it set to port 50 thousand and something (cant remember).
Footnote: Just downloaded and have been reading a "White Paper" for ISP's on reducing the amount of bandwidth that P2P uses on their networks. :xmouth:

370182 2005-07-10 11:59:00 That is a very valid point, and I know of some trackers which FORCE you to use a non-standard port above 20000.

You've got between 1 - 65500 IIRC, and in Linux you must use ports over 1000 if not root. You're right though, picking random ports can be a good idea :)
