This came back. Or wasn't removed in the first place. What happens is my browser pauses. If I bookmark the screen at that point, the URL shows as about:blank.
The browser will go to the webpage after thinking for a bit.

This is the only symptom this time. Nothing at all in Hijackthis. Nor any other checker.

The problem is there is nothing in this AppInit_DLLs key.

You think its because I uninstalled IE that I can't find/kill it?

370150 2005-07-07 01:01:00 Get trojan remover www.simplysup.com

Install it / update it. Then scan. Then select the 3rd-7th option under utils.

Close the browser/s before u do this. This should fix it, once and for all.

Well.....it didn't find anything except an entry referring to the MBs Nvidia firewall that I uninstalled.

I do not have IE installed. However, in the Registry its home page is google.
Hosts is fine.
""Repair Layered Service Provider registry entries

Some Adware/Spyware programs install themselves as “Layered Service Providers”. If such a program is removed, but the Registry entries it has created are not repaired, then Internet connectivity can be lost.

This Utility will check for Layered Service Provider entries referencing missing DLL components, remove any such entries, and re-number the remaining entries so that Internet connectivity can be restored.

Note: you should only use this Utility if you are currently unable to connect to any websites and you believe that this started to happen after an Adware/Spyware component was removed/disabled.

Reset Windows Explorer Policies

Some Malware programs make changes to the Windows Explorer Policies settings, usually in order to restrict a user’s ability to reset malicious changes carried out by the Malware. Examples include disabling access to the Windows Control Panel, disabling access to modifying the Windows Desktop (wallpaper, screensaver etc.), and disabling the ability to manually edit the Windows Registry.

This Utility will reset the Windows Explorer Policies settings to their normal defaults.""

As for these I don't have those problems.
All that happened was I open Mozilla, go to a web page, it pauses. If during that pause I bookmark it it shows the URL as about:blank. But it then continues happily to the correct website.
There are no other problems/symptoms. Systems is as speedy, all other checkers report things are clean.
Anyway its not doing it now. Again.
But I'm suspicious its not entirely gone properly. All the about:blank fixes more or less refer to entries in the registry relating to IE. And its start pages etc. They were all google. appint.dll had no value. Its meant to if about:blank is present. I have removed this thing off lots of other PCs.
I thinks its cause IE isn't there. So I removed all the registry references to it as well this time.

The only other thing I can think of is to reinstall IE again, wait and then fix the stupid thing again, then take IE off again. Seems ridiculous though.

370157 2005-07-08 05:20:00 Having spent ages hunting this thing down I have now discovered it doesn't actually exist. Its when my browser for whatever reason lags going somewhere and of course if I bookmark then its bookmarking an empty page which is called about:blank in Mozilla. Stupid!!! Why don't they rename it about:empty or something, giving me heart failure like that!!
(I didn't know that)
