| 370844 | 2005-07-09 21:51:00 | I have just bought and prepared a new computer for a family member. XP was installed at the "shop" and I found that the nice man there put my name on everything despite my giving him details of the new owner. I have managed to alter everything else but the following : In Documents and Settings, after All Users, my name has been entered. How can I change this to reflect the new owners name. Attempts to rename it are met with an error response advising me that this is a Windows System Folder and can't be deleted or renamed. I'll bet someone out there knows the secret but I am beaten... Thanks in advance. |

Even renaming the user log-in does not rename the folders. Creating a new user and then deleting the old one, complete with all data may be possible, but you could lose access to some programs. Its the price paid for a "more secure" version of Windows. As an aside, unless you have to, do not store data under the "Documents and Settings" tree at all, but create a new folder(s) under C: If the user profile becomes corrupt, all data stored under that profile in Documents and Settings can be lost. I keep everything well away from the Documents and Settings area, absolutely nothing is stored there by choice. |

If it is a fresh install, then if the odd program gronks it, then it could just be reinstalled again. |

I have followed the advice from Godfather and created a seperate folder for this aspect. Even on my own computer, I have always found the Documentary side of things a confusing, duplicated area, even after switching over to the Classic format. Thanks for the input anyway guys.... | bazmeister (3216) | ||
