2005-07-09 10:57:00 | Hello! Well my problem is that i have some AVI files i want to burn to a dvd-rw so that i can play them in a normal dvd player but all the programs i use dont seem to be able to. I then tried to covert them to mpeg-1 because a program said it would burn them and now it wont and everything is all getting very complicated! Can someone tell me of any free programs (trail versions are fine) I can use and what file i need instead of AVI's. If this is even possible because it doesnt look like it...

2005-07-09 12:18:00 | you need to convert the files to VCD format then burn onto cdr not cdrw. a lot of cd burning programs have it built in.

Also, he wants to burn a dvd, not burn a stack of CDs. there is a guide over at afterdawn. I was going to try it once, but it takes a LONG time to convert the avi file so I gave up on it. www.afterdawn.com |

2005-07-10 06:05:00 | ULead Video Studio will convert avi's to mpegs. I have done many from my digcam and at mpeg1 the quality on a 29in TV is quite good. For some reason mpeg2 just does not work (will have to go back to that problem and post here for help). ULead came with my dvd burner. Surely your burner came with software - what was it?

2005-07-10 06:08:00 | Nerovision/Nero Digital loads AVI too, but u may need the DVD plugin to select the option. And after you've added titles etc it'll burn to DVD. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2005-07-10 06:52:00 | winavi will convert from avi to vob and create a folder of dvd compatible files to burn straight to dvd i have yet to find a better program for this type of conversion and i've tried 'em all also converts a heap of other file types to a heap of other file types and is well worth buying. it will also burn them for you after the conversion, although I prefer ashampoo for burning www.winavi.com (http://www.winavi.com/)
