371353 2005-07-11 22:10:00 What operating system do you use? With WinXP, your favourites can be found under your user name in the My Documents and Settings directory, otherwise just search for "favorites". Once you have located it, just copy the entire directory somewhere safe. Jen (38)

Sounds easy - for some.
But for others, care to make some suggestions about where is "somewhere safe"?
I'm actually talking Firefox rather than IE, but assume they're similar?

371356 2005-07-12 00:08:00 Only IE calls them favourites. thats probably what caused the confusion. In firefox, go into manage bookmarks, select file -> export & choose where to save them to (my documents is as good a place as any as long as you make an offsite backup). this will create a html file with all your bookmarks that can be read by any browser & imported by most, although they will probably just end up in alphabetical order if you import them into a browser other than firefox.

Edit: I should really read more than the last post. It sounded like Laura was the origional poster.

I thank you for that.
I think the original poster got sorted..

371358 2005-07-12 03:27:00 What I have done is create a Bookmarks folder on my data drive then moved and directed Opera to its bookmarks file within it. Every now and then I will make a couple of copies of the bookmarks file and store one on the backup drive. When I format I don't need to worry about saving the file as it is not on the same drive/partition as Windows.

This can be done with IE's Favorites as well as Firefox's Bookmarks.

If using Firefox and Thunderbird there is a cool program called MozBackup to backup each profile, you can then use the same program on the new computer to reinstate everything, its like you never left home.
