371325 2005-07-11 10:20:00 Hi,
Just a quick question to anyone on quicksilvers adsl, do you know if your ip address changes when you get capped? so far my ip has been static but I'm yet to be capped. Also do they cap you as soon as you go over your data allowance?

371326 2005-07-11 10:30:00 Just joined ADSL and am waiting to reach my limit to see what would happen bob_doe_nz (92)
371327 2005-07-11 10:42:00 Yeah me too, is the billing period at the end of the month? not like telecom thich is somewhere near the end but not quite the end, weirdos. Let me know what happens with you, if it is like xtra where if you dont disconnect then they cant cap you (as they cant move you to the throttled ip's) I *think* thats correct. cold_fusion (6537)
371328 2005-07-12 06:43:00 So is anyone else on quicksilver that knows about how and when they cap? cold_fusion (6537)
371329 2005-07-12 23:31:00 I've been with Quicksilver for nearly 4 years, I was on dial-up for about 6 months then switched to Jetstart (128k), I then moved to the 256k plan and finally to the 2MB plan. When I was living at home we averaged about 5-6GB per month (thats 4 desktop PC's and a laptop on the network) and when it was really used it went up to about 8GB.

To be honest I've never gone over my cap limit...frankly I don't even need 10GB but it's there in case MS decide to distibute Longhorn for free... that way I can download multiple copies and give them to my mates lol :D

As for their bills they prorate your bills.. this is taken from my bill which I received last week...

"Our billing period is from the 1st day of the month to the last day of the month. To bring invoices inline with our billing period, we prorate the invoices that end on any day other than the the 1st of the month. This means either your 1st or 2nd invoice may not be for a month but either part of a month or more than a month. Prorate invoices will have a PRORATED DAY CREDIT LINE ITEM which states how many day the invoice is for."

Sample Invoice Line Items

Desciption - Neon Account
Price - 22.95
Quantity - 0.69
Subtotal - 15.83

Prorated Day Credit - 21

So basically from the above your bill is for a period of 21 days.

Hope that helps a bit

cheers

371330 2005-07-13 14:44:00 I found that since I'm a tertiary student, that if I have a StudentCard,
I am eligible for a 10GB limit at 256KB for about 40 dollars a month .

I need to get one of those dang cards NOW!

Saves me an extra 10 dollars a month with a much bigger cap
There is a catch from what I can tell though . . .

371331 2005-07-14 14:03:00 Yeah I've got a student card, I was on the 56k with that deal, it was only like $15 a month or so. But I didnt want to share 256k between several pcs so I went with 1Mbit. Anyway those little cards are great! I've used it so many time (probably a refelction on my poor eating habbits) but $15 for 2 pizzas is pretty good I think, also cheap videos. We students need all the help we can get.......hummmm, maybe I could just stop buying pizza and pay off the loan with that...nah, PIZZA! cold_fusion (6537)
371332 2005-07-26 05:50:00 BUMP...

Well if you're still reading this cold_fusion...
I just reached my limit and found that you will be dropped once you TURN OFF YOUR ROUTER, so leave it on!

I thinks the limit was a little over the 4GB mark e.g 4096 MB (in my account it was). NZ data still runs at your full ADSL connection speed. Overseas traffic gets dropped.

Now to find a Unreal Tourney server in NZ
