| 371883 | 2005-07-13 20:47:00 | Just a copy/paste here from Scot's Newsletter, a Micro$oft watchdog publication Win2000 SP4 Update Rollup; No SP5 Coming At the end of June Microsoft released the Update Rollup for Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4). It contains all the security-related updates produced for Windows 2000 between the release of SP4 and the release of the Update Rollup. It also offers a small number of important non-security updates. Microsoft notes that the number of updates included in the Update Rollup is significantly lower than a Service Pack, and most of the tweaks it offers have already been released separately. Bottom line for Windows 2000 users: Microsoft has moved into the initial phase of unsupportedness (if that's a word), or the "Extended Support Phase," for Windows 2000. It will continue to release important security updates for the next few years, but it does not expect to release any future service packs at all for Win2000. |
