371779 2005-07-13 05:12:00 I just read the DVD writer roundup at Anandtech.com and it seems that the Pioneer DVR-109 produces a massive amount of errors when writing to Verbatim 16X DVD+R media. I am concerned because I use this media quite a lot for archival purposes. Should I be worried at all?

Personally I haven't seemed to have encountered any problems with this media but am worried about the long term effects of using the verbatim discs.

371780 2005-07-13 05:20:00 That may have been the case, when it first came out, with the original firmware. Which was 1.09 or something? Its now upto 1.55.

Usually a firmware update fixes probs like this.

371781 2005-07-13 05:44:00 Some writers don't do well with cheap media, I know that. Never came across any problems with the Pioneer. If you do get errors, you can use a different brand, can't you, there are several good ones around. pctek (84)
371782 2005-07-13 05:47:00 The test was quite recent, they used the 1.55 firmware with the pioneer drive. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems with this drive and Verbatim 16X DVD+Rs (MCC004). jeffreyyan (719)
371783 2005-07-13 05:54:00 Dunno .

Dont have a 109 . Only a 106 on the other PC, and an Asus DL DVD burner on this .

I usually use Laser DVD blanks . Cheap . BUT I've never had a prob with them .

But they're not 16x either . Only 4x -R .
