Select Lan Settings and make sure proxy server is not ticked.

Have you tried with the firewall off.

proxy server is not ticked.
And have now tried it with Firewall turned off. Made no difference.

Try repair of IE in Control panels/Add remove programs

Try a winsock repair

As it was installed with XP.

Altho I wouldnt use XP without SP1 or 2 either. Even if u have a firewall / router installed.

Antivirus AVG daily updates
Firewall Sygate.

IE will not allow repair in 'add remove programs.

HAve tried uninstalling and reinstalling in to no effect.

tried SP2 and had no end of problems. decided on fresh install of XP and hey presto... no problem. Once bitten etc. :D
