371731 2005-07-14 02:20:00 yes supposed to be hidden, i have all the hiding turned off.
would the fact that i use FAT32 make a difference?

371732 2005-07-14 02:24:00 No. It's the code in the file that matters, not the file system it is stored on. I'd check the file size against the presumably good copy on the installation CD. Graham L (2)
371733 2005-07-14 02:28:00 I have already copied ntldr off the install cd Dannz (1668)
371734 2005-07-14 02:48:00 Try setting the attributes. It should probably be System, anyway, though I'm not sure whether it would make any difference.

Doesn't the "Repair " option in the recovery part of the CD work?

If the boot process "can't find" the essential NTLDR file, either it can't find it or there's something wrong with it. ;)

371735 2005-07-14 03:06:00 The hard drive partition that windows on is corrupt, that is why it cant find it. Dannz (1668)
371736 2005-07-14 03:07:00 There are about 4 files associated with NTLDR and the initial boot process . From memory and looking at my root on a win2k system they are, NTDETECT . COM, arcldr . exe, arcsetup . exe and of course boot . ini . corruption of the any of the first three, especially, will cause an NTLDR is missing error .

You can fix this from the repair console by booting from the Windows install disc, copying over, replacing and registering the replacement files . You may be able to fix it by using the repair option that checks all the Windows system files (system file checker), if that is available off the XP CD .

Edit:

The hard drive partition that windows on is corrupt, that is why it cant find it .

Have you used fdisk from the console to look at it . Safer may be to look at it with a Linux live CD via QT Parted or a rescue disc like Insert, BG Rescue or ECBD or, the drive manufacturers diagnostic utility disc .
