371601 2005-07-13 21:09:00 ok let's say it muight be the PSU but how can enabling/disabling the USB Host Controllers affect it, surely the USB won't tip the scales either way. It's not like its a HDD or DVD-RW? cajetan (8513)
371602 2005-07-13 21:24:00 Wrong!!!
??? Wrong about ....
Until recently my P4 with 4 IDE devices used to boot up with a crappy PC Company PSU (about 200W) with no issues.
The only reason it was replaced (after 3+ years) was because it was becomning noisier.
It will next find life in a Linux based server :D .. just gotta lube the fan

371603 2005-07-13 22:57:00 i would agree with Mythix i don't think the PSU have anything to do with it. have spoken to others and someone suggested that the card reader is at fault. i tried my sony mem card in there and it took like 1 min for it to show up bit slow me think?

has no one else had this problem????

So have you disconnected the card reader and tried it again
I've used one of these Foxcon cases with built in reader for a build a few weeks ago and it was fine. (not to say yours hasn't got a fault)
Anything else using USB?
Disconnect the front USB cable from the board and see if that makes a difference, you may have the connectors on back to front

371605 2005-07-14 00:00:00 You can run any size PSU you like, if it works great.

IMHO, the machine you built is very grunty, and will need a reliable power source, a 350W PSU in your rig is like buying a HSV Commodore with a 4cyl 2L motor.

Where is the time being used? when you first boot before the black Windows screen, or when logging on with your username.

371606 2005-07-14 05:46:00 have not dared touch the usb cables or disable anything the only thing that I have disabled is USB controllers in Device Mgr. Rob66 what size PSU should I have?
I might take it back to the supplier cause they installed it. Might get some sleep tonight.
Thks everyone, I pretty sure its the 11-1 card reader playing up somewhere.

371607 2005-07-14 06:07:00 Here (forums.overclockers.co.nz) is some interesting reading for you about PSU's.

I would go for an Enermax 485W or similar.

371608 2005-07-16 18:21:00 For anyone interested, the problem was the motherboard, apparently there is a bug in the current M/B that makes it slow in initialising devices, got a new FOXCONN NF4UK8AA and now it flies! around 20sec for a cold boot to usable in XP SP2. Thks to everyone who contributed an answer. Lucky for me I got a nice retailer that did everything for me! By the way have upgraded to a Hyena 500w PSU niceeeeeee. cajetan (8513)
