| 371456 | 2005-07-12 03:03:00 | Hi, I am thinking of signing up the 256k no cap plan in slingshot. Have few questions hopefully some existing slingshot adsl user can give me some help. Has anyone download bittorrent files with this ISP? and what's the download speed like, I am expecting a speed of 20-25kbps. Also compare to Xtra and Ihug, is that a big difference in terms of the download speed? Thanks all, Gugu |

Most ISPs are very tight lipped about their attempts to reduce the bandwidth consumption of p2p traffic, but there is quite a bit of speculation by orcon customers that they limit most popular p2p protocols including bittorrent. Slingshot ADSL isn't quite old enough or popular enough for any dirty secrets they have to come out. | Greven (91) | ||

I averaged about 1Kbps speed, total port shaping, and if I were you, I would'nt download anything dodgy, or expect to receive warnings. |

| 371460 | 2005-07-14 12:19:00 | I can answer that, as I'm on slingshot. They cap my bittorrent transfers during peak times, quite drastically I've noticed in some evenings (4 kbs or less). Overnight from about midnight through to afternoon though you can get up to 32 kbs depending on how live the torrent is, but I usually get between 16-24 kbs. Normal downloads I always get 32kbs though. Can't compare any other isp because I haven't tried any others with adsl. I've personally downloaded 110 gb worth of comix, world series of poker videos, and mixed martial arts videos, those were my main interest. Unlimited is good in that way. However my power bill was nearly $100 last month, because I kept my computer on most nights that month. But usually it's around $15-20 more than usual with my downloading my point is you can go hard about 16 hours out of 24, and get lots if you really want ;) Edit: Oh by the way, Bitcomet all the way. Fixes all the NAT/Firewall problems that my router causes. |
