| 372460 | 2005-07-20 11:07:00 | Hi Gonzales! What I ment was the question if it is possible to make a copy of HDD with OS WindowsXP to use it as a spare, in case if first HDD will become corrupted. There were discussions on the internet that it is impossible with Microsoft. I have found after I have started that thread a free software that works to make a clone of HDD. I am using it now instead of the original. It is called HDclone, on www.miray.de. There must be others. But this program don't make CD clone, only HDD. And it did not work with external HDD. It would be very handy to use external. Regards Taly |

| 372461 | 2005-07-20 11:16:00 | this is copied from leo laportes site: First step is to get a good copy of the data on your hard drive. I use Norton Ghost to do that. You can create a Ghost boot CD and if you have a CD burner in the machine you can make a backup of the entire drive. Id do that before taking any further action, just to make sure you have a good backup. You can even use the Explorer feature in Ghost to restore your data to another PC. If you dont have Ghost or a burner, you could remove the drive and put it in a working machine as the secondary drive to copy your data. Either way, make sure you back up your data before trying to fix XP. leo (www.leo.am) |

| 372464 | 2005-07-20 12:03:00 | It would depend on what version of windows u backup wouldn't it? On whether it would backup / fit on a CD? I can use DVD, can't I? I have WinXP home and it takes more then 1 GB . I have made a gost on another HDD and it is OK . But it is hassle to put HDD inside instead of using external . But cloning software did not want to recognize external one . Taly |
