2005-07-25 11:08:00 | Or you could purchase a rare earth magnet the size of 5cents,problem is, if perchance you have a bit of metal in your false teeth, you could become a bit gummy. | Cicero (40) | |
2005-07-25 11:08:00 | The ones I buy aren't branded as magnitised, Though they are cheap ,which is good as i buy a new screwdriver set every 3 months, always seem to lose the 2 or 3 sizes I use most often.Well mine should last me a lifetime provided I don't leave them at someone's house like I do with my tool CDs. You can also buy (from a PC shop) a tray of common computer screws, cheap as chips. Though I find if you build a hundred or so comps you end up with a huge glut of them.....Will have to grab some from my PC dealer when I am over there this week, hopefully. He usually looks after me quite nicely. ;)

2005-07-25 11:13:00 | Must be something wrong with DSE in your area Foxy. Assorted computer screws DSE catalogue No. XH5058My local DSE didn't stock mixed packs (or any packs) of computer screws when I looked the other day, although they used to. I was on the hunt for suitable larger sized screws to attach some 80mm fans to the rear of my case. Had to get some from Placemakers in the end (they weren't meant for computers tho :p)

2005-07-25 11:24:00 | ........but I got a flash red set from George Henry today - Yes, a visit to George Henry for a basic insulated screwdriver or 2 is on the "to do" list for me after finding on Saturday that Mitre10 in Moorhouse didnt have such obscure tools as these anymore. :groan: | personthingy (1670) | |
2005-07-25 20:33:00 | OK, it looks like DSE aren't retail stocking the screws now, they can be bought online or ordered through a retail shop. Magnetic screwdrivers can usually be bought from an engineers suppliers, Mitre 10 are pretty useless for anything in the tool line not connected with building or woodwork. Long series screwdrivers 300+mm are useful tools also for reaching into awkward places.

2005-07-25 22:28:00 | We have a Mitre10 Mega-centre opening in the next few weeks, anyone know if they carry an expanded set of tools? | Metla (12) | |
2005-07-26 04:35:00 | We have a Mitre10 Mega-centre opening in the next few weeks, anyone know if they carry an expanded set of tools? You wish . . . the store that couldn't supply Personthingy with his insulated screwdriver call themselves a "Mega-Centre" though I think there is now an larger super-size one over the other side of town that I have yet to visit . Don't know why they call themselves home hardware outfits as they never have what I want when I want it . Incidentally, my magnetised screwdrivers are good - I have been happily screwing away all day and am still not sick of it yet . :p

| 372400 | 2005-07-26 04:45:00 | There is ONE OTHER style of screw-holding driver that I use as a retired mechanic . Let me find it in my SNAP-ON catalog site . . brb . . . . YUP . . got it!!!!!!!!! this is a mechanical type without magnets for holding, and the best thing is that it's also insulated . It is also dual tipped . It holds Phillips or Reed Prince and the normal slotted screws . It's a Snap-On tool .
