372811 2005-07-17 01:40:00 Just curious. In my "Net-work Connections" I see my ikon says I am useing Local Area Connection 15. No other ikons are present.

Where do they get the 15 from? I did a format and reinstall a couple of weeks ago and certainly not reinstalled it 15 times in the intervening time.

Last time I looked in there I had connection 2.

I am just useing a Conexant adsl modem. Networking etc is disabled in bios.

372812 2005-07-18 08:53:00 It's a Windows Networking thingy Jack. The other 14 should be in there, but greyed out if they are disabled. How many times did you run the Network Setup wizard, did it abort at all or have any other type of hissy fit? Have you got your Windows Explorer > Tools menu, Folder Options > View tab, set to show all files and folder and to show system files and folders? Not sure if that would make any difference but give it a crack.

Then again, you could be hosting multiple connections and sharing your bandwidth (and money) with someone who doesn't want you to know and doesn't want the authorities to know it's them and not you sending spam, pornography or DDoS attacks. Just a thought to brightrn up your day :D

372815 2005-07-18 12:13:00 I've come across that. Why? Who knows, couldn't get anything to make them show up if they are "greyed out". The guy had a faulty NIC and tons of spyware. Replaced the NIC, cleaned out the PC and deleted the connection too.
After that it was fine. Dunno why though....

372816 2005-07-18 19:05:00 They are not greyed out, they normally aren't showing.
I tried to uninstall them, but got the message "Can not uninstall xxx. They MAY be needed to start the computer"

Not game to try to disable.
