373257 2005-07-18 14:53:00 I have read the helpful article that shows how to change the setting when opening Windows Explorer:
forums.pcworld.co.nz

But the way I open Explorer is by right-clicking on start -> Explorer. Opening it this way still takes me to my documents and settings while if I try to open it via going to start-> programs -> accessories -> windows explorer takes me to where I set it.

By right clicking on start is the way I've been opening explorer for years :( Does anybody know how to change the setting of windows explorere if it is being fired from the start button?

FYI: I am using windows server 2003

Thank you.

I can't help with your problem, but will bump it up to Page 1 again.

(Foxy, you know this stuff - and no doubt others do)

373259 2005-07-19 17:55:00 After installing XP I navigate my way to windows. Then scroll down and find a 1 kb file called "explore". I copy this file to start button.

Then to use windows explorer just click start/explorer and up comes expanded explorer page.

373260 2005-07-19 19:28:00 This command will let you open Windows Explorer and expand the drive and directory of your choice.

C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /n,/e, <drive>:\<Directory>

You should be able to run it from a desktop icon or an icon loaded on the start menu.

You may be able to with a registry tweak but I do not know of one. I have recently been trying to change the properties of the My Computer shortcut on the desktop without any success but I haven't Googled for a possible solution yet.

Does the solution provided by Susan B in your link not suit your purposes? A shortcut on the Quick Launch bar or on your desktop would open Explorer where you want it.
