1388519 2014-11-21 20:34:00 In my work van I tend to overspeed quite a bit (110km max). Works cracking down on it & try as I might I go over 100km to often.
So I thought I would pick up a cheap GPS unit that will beep when I hit 100km, (the work vans GPS sends an alert if I go over 107km)

I won't use it for directions, so Ideally something cheapish as the screen doesn't have to be very good
I would like to be able to configure the sound of the beep (Or have an easy on the ear sound)
& when it beeps (GPS units take a few seconds to register speed changes & I would like to set it for 100km or a max of 102km)

Can anyone suggest a GPS unit or similar?

Cheers
Daniel

1388520 2014-11-22 01:19:00 Hardly Normals have a selection of GPS units, some cheap that have speed alerts www.harveynorman.com.au Select a unit and specs to see if they have speed alert.

Mind you you could always just lift the foot a bit, generally if you are passing everything on the road you're going faster than the speed limit ;)

I'll check out their site, if anyone has a suggestion let me know, otherwise I'll pick up a random one on mon

1388523 2014-11-22 01:43:00 Our current car has a speedo marking at 105. I find it easy to keep the needle somewhere between 100 and 105

(105 on the speedo is 100 "real")

1388524 2014-11-23 07:32:00 I have heard GPS units/programs should not be relied upon for speed indication. Possibly a shortage of signals might be a cause of inaccuracy? PPp (9511)

They are surprisingly accurate but do not respond in real time and don't account for sloping surfaces, using it as a backup to the speedo to warn you of speeding is ok but you wouldn't replace the speedo with one.

1388526 2014-11-24 08:15:00 However the good thing about a dedicated car GPS is that it should know the speed limit no matter what area you are in 50/70/100km/hr whatever. Ofthesea (14129)
1388527 2014-11-25 07:16:00 Just tell work you will pay them $100 dollars off your wages every time you are caught speeding, that should be good motivation to improve. Hopefully a free option! PPp (9511)
