| 1375035 | 2014-05-15 02:33:00 | poly for a couple of years then worked for a company doing a mix of home PC's, HP Laptop/Desktop/Printer(ug) repairs and onsite desktop support for a few decent size companies down this way for about 3 years. Was a fantastic foot in the door, didn't get paid great but who cares, got to treat it like an apprenticeship. Before this had worked in various retail rolls, M10 etc so had build up some customer service experience (important in any job). I then applied for my current sysadmin roll about 3 years ago to escape things like time sheets and working against the clock. Happy with the move, great place to work get treated and paid OK too. |

| 1375037 | 2014-05-15 05:22:00 | My old boss recommended me, after that it jobs was in companies that knew my previous employers. That made it much easier. When the company I work for ever advertised for low end IT staff (desktop stuff only), we'd get a stack of CV's over 2 feet high !!! And they were just the short list :-) Many were way overqualified, but still applied. Its tough out there . The more usual thing now seems to be laying off PC Techs rather than employing . |

Yes I think the PC Tech market has definitely shrunk since the tablet market was born and it is continuing to shrink while the software developer, web application and cloud services market continues to sprout. So it probably well worth thinking about picking up new skill sets if you want to go places  |

We're the busiest we've ever been and it has been like that since the start of the year. People still wanting their old XP machines repaired! |

| 1375040 | 2014-05-15 08:53:00 | What program do you use to design the kitchens? We use a program called 20/20, there others such as cabinet vision which are even better but way harder to learn (this is what I want to learn next) decotech and microvellum but 202/20 beats those last two hands down. |

| 1375042 | 2014-05-15 10:51:00 | Accidentally. I don't work in IT but I spend 90% of my day on a computer and try and avoid it wherever possible. Because I know computers I assumed the role of web design, network admin, new tech purchases and the go to guy if something breaks. And that is far beyond my actual role! | hueybot3000 (3646) | ||
