1388956 2014-11-30 00:23:00 The problem is that two YouTube streams do not represent "load" on a router. They each open one, maybe two connections to the remote server, and just "stream". The issue with most routers falling over or mis-behaving happens when a lot of open connections, or half-open connections occur, through things like Torrents, Gaming, TeamSpeak and the likes.
If all you do is the odd bit of web browsing and emails, then you'll likely never run into any issues with the bog-standard ISP-supplied routers.

1388957 2014-12-01 10:33:00 Phone Telecom and most of the time, they will replace it free of charge.

Strange you may say that, when Telecom just rang last week ago, doing one of their promotions and they said that the only way we (Mum and I ) could get a replacement is if we upgraded to one of their newer plans. Mum pays about $75.00 a month on a 40gb plan at the moment. $10 extra and we will get the Huawei modem for free.

I am so fed up with Telecom modems now, I too am looking for another ADSL modem myself, particularly the TP-Link brand, although there have been mixed reviews with some of the models and firmware either no longer available or out of date; USB ports make downloading (if connected to an external hdd) seem like a snail crawl.

If anyone happens to be reading this, do you have a TP-link ADSL Modem? I'm looking at the Model No:TD-W8960N but curious if anyone else might also suggest a better one?

1388958 2014-12-02 07:54:00 Don't use the USB ports, they've never functioned too well
Get a DrayTek DV130, does ADSL2+ and if you ever upgrade, VDSL2
Get a TL-WR1043ND and run Gargoyle firmware on it, can also be used for if you ever get UFB.

Solid as a rock! :)

1388960 2014-12-02 09:37:00 I've been thinking about replacing our Thomson TG 585 modem/router because my new laptop won't reconnect after a snooze.

I think its a modem problem because another newer Thomson occasionally used presents no problem for the pc. Wakes up sees modem and connects within seconds.

I do have a spare SMC somewhere but haven't tried it yet.
