373942 2005-07-20 20:03:00 My Xtra Broadband plan is the "Xtra JetStream Everyday usage" which at the time was advertised as 1 Mbps and 1gb of usage. It may now be called the Broadband Discover plan.

For months and months I connected at 1Mbps and sometimes it said 1.3Mbps (using an Alcatel Speedtouch Modem).

Recently, it went down to approx 760 Kbps and the last few days it has gone down to 416 Kbps (as it is today). I have not exceeded my 1gb quota.

I could ring up Xtra, wait ages and they will tell me that I must have done something and to re-install whatever software they can think of (as noted from previous experience).

I live in the Auckland West Harbour/Hobsonville area

Any ideas?

373943 2005-07-20 21:01:00 Ah you're running off that old slightly dodgy for Jetstream exchnage up there. Ring them up and moan - its more than likely their fault.
Although....have you done a spyware scan lately?

373944 2005-07-21 06:24:00 Fortunately mate you aren't alone.

Overloaded equipment at the exchange coupled with Telecom's shocking ratio's on said exchanges mean this is a more common problem. ISP's too are over-subscribing themselves, which is causing a lot of problems as well.

373945 2005-07-21 19:23:00 If your 'connection speed is dropping rather than the 'traffic speed' then I would suspect your physical landline is going down. Put a fault in to Telecom. You may hear crackling on your phone. I had this one last year.

Yes (daily).

373947 2006-03-05 02:32:00 Just to let you know.

The problem was traced to my connection being on a faulty port at the exchange. I am now getting about 1040kbps.

373950 2006-03-09 22:24:00 Fingers crossed for LLU!!
In most other countries 10mps broadband is cheap as chips and capped rates are almost unheard of.

373951 2006-03-09 22:48:00 Perhaps the government will re-nationalise Telecom, as Gareth Morgan suggested as one of the options that a responsible government had. :) Terry Porritt (14)
