373669 2005-07-20 00:46:00 Boy what a mess. I have tried all that I know to find my dang model number. I have just read another post with someone having the same problem. It should not be so hard. I have a Compaq Prosignia desktop with a bios 3+yrs. old. I'm sure it is a 330 series, but that is not enough info. the bios version is 686t9 8-5-99, mainboard is model 041ch. chipset intel corp. 82443bx/zx440bx. I have a serial# Id# but no model# I used SiSoftware to find some info but still can't find a model #. HP/Compaq can not detect anything when they do a scan. It's an older model. Any suggestions????? :groan: stumpedagain (8553)
373670 2005-07-20 00:54:00 Why do you want to upgrade the BIOS?

If there is no particular reason, do not do it.

You have a good point! I have a program that just said my bios was 3yrs . old and if I could I should update . So your saying if it aint broke, don't fix it . LOL

373672 2005-07-20 01:08:00 Exactly. A failed BIOS upgrade can render your machine absolutely useless. Proprietary gear, like HP/Compaq, can be tricky in determining the correct BIOS to be used, and unless it is an exact match, you have avery good chance of having a balls-up on your hands.

This programme you speak of, it's not Sisoft or Aida perchance? (otherwise very good programmes)

If anyone suggests a BIOS upgrade as one of the first means of fixing a PC problem, tell them to naff off.
