| 373279 | 2005-07-18 23:06:00 | Is there any way or anywhere one can download a little icon for Jetstream - I am still of the old school that need to "see" my connection (like the dial-up connection). Or even a desktop speed measuring proggie? And shees, it's only been a week and I'm already nearly over my 1GB cap. sarel |

Last month was my partner and my first month on Jetstream. We were on the 1GB limit too, I think by the end of the month we had topped out at 5GB. We increased it to 3GB for this month.... Mind you last month I had about 1 maybe 2 installs of Fedora with downloaded apps (most of which I saved), plus rebuilt an old machine for partner, and installed 3 Win OS's on it (downloaded a heap of Win Updates). I tried it with XP, it groaned, so tried it with Win2000 (the partner groaned at the long bootups), so now it has 98SE. And then there was Azureus .... which I downloaded and experimented with last month for the first time |

One gig is not enough.Telecom seem to be lenient so far. |

| 373283 | 2005-07-19 00:11:00 | Look in properties of network connection. Only thing is that doesn't tell you what your ADSL speed is. Mine only says Speed: 100.0Mbps, Status: Connected. I think Sarel wants to see his speed like the dialup icon showed. Not that that was correct either... There are utilities that will give the ADSL speed and traffic but not many good free ones. I used one for a while but got bored with it plus I like to have as few apps running in the background as possible so it got ditched after a couple of weeks. |

| 373285 | 2005-07-19 01:05:00 | Yes, I read that the same way as you, Cicero, then I read it a couple more times and imagined lots of indepth hidden meanings in those words that went far beyond requiring "just a little icon". :p Hmmm... I feel a bit like the tortoise and the hare since the admins changed the forum time - my post was made way before tweak'e's but his post managed to get in before mine. :eek: :D |

| 373286 | 2005-07-19 01:26:00 | I like to use Traffic Usage Checker (4g.virtual.net.nz). It just sits in the taskbar and tells me my Jetstream usage for the month. It checks it against the Telecom server, so better than other monitoring programs which are just estimates. Good, small & free, made by an NZer I think. | E|im (87) | ||

Noooooo - I only do spyware and AV downloads but I guess the son has downloaded a few things (it has been curtailed in the mean time) at a time the dad was not present. I don't know what, all I know I suddenly had only 200 megs left Running the usual Zonealarm (free version) Elim I like to use Traffic Usage Checker. Thanks - will try it. sarel |
