374146 2005-07-21 22:05:00 I was given a Mac LC575. I know nothing about Mac's, but would like to experiment with this one. When I try to start it up, it has a gray screen with a fpicture of a floppy disk and a flashing question mark on the disk. It will not let me click on it anywhere. Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can fix it? I do not have a boot up disk for it. Does anyone know where I can get one? Plus, what kind of OS's are used on a Mac? I, obviously, am used to Windows on an IBM-compatible. Cyndidd (8572)

374148 2005-07-21 23:28:00 Earlier this year i also acquired an LC575, and had to set it up again, the OS is a free download from apple, macos 7.5, anyway below are the threads that helped me, I think there are boot disks on the Mac Site, (can't remember as I didin't need one), if you do get it all up and running, try replacing the web browser (ancient version of netscape) with the 6800 version of iCab browser, it's not quicker but it work a heck of a lot better

374149 2005-07-22 00:10:00 If you go to trademe.co.nz you will be able to get an OS 7.5 or OS 8 or 8.1 CD
The LC 575 will take OS 8.1

374150 2005-07-22 02:30:00 Does an LC575 have a CD drive? SCSI CD drives are around, but ... does an LC575 know how to boot from one?

I once downloaded the 6 (or so) floppy set images for an early version, but I forgot how I actually created the floppies. Probably I had a working Mac. ;)

They were in a mirror site, but that site has been reorganised, and I can;'t see the files there now.
