374113 2005-07-21 19:17:00 I have just bought a notebook, and have never owned one before. The battery is fully charged and if I boot it up while plugged in its fine, I can unplug it while it's up and running and it will run on the battery ok. It won't boot up from the battery!! Is it meant to be able to do this? I would think it would and I need it to if I'm to use it while out and about away from power sources. Do I have to set something up on it before it will do this or am I dreaming??

It is a ASUS Z81L.

Someone please enlighten me so I don't have to be a notebook idiot forever...

cheers

Still waking up, but I believe there is a setting somewhere in power options (control panel) you need to look at... can't remeber what its called :waughh:

374115 2005-07-21 21:14:00 Definitely should be able to power up on the battery only.
Shouldn't have to change any settings to make this happen either.

374116 2005-07-21 22:05:00 I dont have the same model as you, nor do i have the same problem.

If i want to fire up Flaptop i do with or without the external power source connected. Your problem seems unusual. It wont fire up if the battery is nearly flat.

Are you sure the battery is healthy, properly connected and fully charged?

374117 2005-07-21 23:18:00 Turn the battery lock off, situated on the left near the screen hinge.Needs to be moved with a small tool (like a tiny screwdriver) Metla (12)
374118 2005-07-21 23:44:00 Thanks so much Metla, have just done as you said and it starts up just right. :) :nerd: paulaj (6340)
374119 2005-07-22 01:02:00 I've seen those battery switches on some Asus laptops Metla but forgot about it!
So what's it there for if the laptop can run off the battery if you unplug the power cable after it's running but won't power up on battery??
Is it just to stop the laptop from turning on by accident while in transit?
