| 374108 | 2005-07-21 18:47:00 | Hi All! My feeling at the moment is that "backup"backup is most important issue due to viruses. Is external HDD and Gosting (cloning) the altimate answer? :badpc: |

| 374109 | 2005-07-21 21:04:00 | There is no ultimate answer currently. Discs can be lost or scratched beyond repair, external harddrives can fail at the drop of a hat. Ghosting to another harddrive is one of the better options though :) |

Usually if it si failing there will be sysmptoms - noise, stange things with folders/files - that sort of thing. It is possible for the controller to die rather than the actual disks but usually you get a bit of warning. If the data is crucial, then backup to more than one thing. I have mine on both my external HDD and on CD and on DVD. |

I keep my on the floor. The worst that can happen - I can step on it. To gost I am using HDclone by www.miray.de. It took me more then 6 hours to clone. But it is free. Is SymantecGhost much faster and important for home use? HDclone won't recognise external HDD and also can't clone on CD. Miray said that next version will work with external. |

| 374112 | 2005-07-22 18:53:00 | ON a reasonably fast system norton ghost will clone at around a Gb per Minute.....on my system (P4 2.4ghz 512mb & 7200rpm hdd) ghost runs at about 935Mb per min.......takes about 40 mins to ghost my drive to another 7200rpm drive........I did once have to ghost a customers dying drive and as it had *almost* expired it would only ghost at 5mb per min lol took quite a number of hours but it did it in the end........... | drcspy (146) | ||
