374046 2005-07-21 06:43:00 Hi All
I have got me a Ge-Force 6200 agp card but when i install it and turn on the comp, at first it comes up with the card name chipset and memory in a black sreen and the comp continues to load as normal, then it says that Windows has found new hardware a "standard pci vga graphics adapter" and will only install the standard windows drivers, it will not let me install the latest Nvidia graphics drivers of the cd that came with the card, which by the way were the drivers i was using anyway. Nor will it recognise it as AGP card? If i let the computer install the standard drivers and then when started install the latest Nvidia drivers the computer loads drivers prompts for reboot and then apon reboot, says its found new hardware, and the process begins again. If i remove the card, i can reboot load the drivers and im back to "On board Graphics". Can anybody Help please? Windows ME, xp1800+ 512 megram Asus A7N266-VM motherboard

374047 2005-07-21 06:48:00 If you look in your motherboard manual, you should find somewhere in it on how to disable the onboard graphics. Either in the bios or with a jumper on the mb.

374049 2005-07-21 07:03:00 It also pays to disable or uninstall the current drivers (the old graphics) before installing the new ones. Once you have disabled the onboard graphics (assuming it's not an automatic feature of the BIOS when it detects a different graphics chip)), set it to standard VGA drivers, then install the new ones. No there is only a option to use Onboard bios or switch to AGP bios And it was allready on AGP, must have been automatic from when i put the card in.

Yes thanks Murray, I have allready done exactly as you have said, When i install the new ones it reboots and does as i mentioned in my first post.

374052 2005-07-21 21:03:00 i had sort of had the same problem, my mobo also switched to agp from intergrated graphics automaticly, but i also had to disable it. i found out that i had a driver conflict, i couldnt seem to work it out so i formated the hdd (this was a waste of time )) all i should have done was install and run driver cleaner (http://www.driverheaven.net/) this will remove any traces of your old set of intergrated graphic drivers. 374053 2005-07-21 22:46:00 Restart in safemode and go to the device manager . Remove all entries under the heading "Display Adaptors" . ME seems to collect drivers, and only shows when in safemode . Then restart and see if it will go with the nvidia drivers .

Another reason windows can get upset about AGP drivers is if the motherboard chipset drivers are not loaded .

374054 2005-07-21 23:30:00 If the board has an AGP slot as well as integrated VGA it will have the option in the BIOS to disbale the onboard. WHat is the brand and model of your board? pctek (84)
374055 2005-07-22 02:20:00 Another suggestion.....

In the BIOS look for an option called Init Display First, it will be set on PCI , change it to AGP.
