374204 2005-07-22 05:52:00 Then I guess the vast catologing of games, programs and hardware that have been catoluged as non-working all over the internet are just made up then.

Perhaps you could ask him what AV he is using.....

374205 2005-07-22 05:57:00 No, wrong, it WONT run _all_ 32-bit programs .
Chill, you are talking about 64-bit Windows though, not a 64-bit motherboard running 32-bit Windows (ie plain Windows XP) .

My understanding is that having 32-bit Windows XP on a 64-bit motherboard will still run 32-bit programs without any problems, unlike trying to run them on 64-bit Windows .

Am I wrong on this?

374207 2005-07-22 06:08:00 it's not 64bit motherboard foxy, it's 64bit processor. And yes, with the exception of itanium, all mainstream (Athlon 64/FX/x2 and Intel P4 w 64, Xeon with 64mem) will run 32 bit OS and programs fine, depending whether it's a 32 or 64bit OS. The problems Chill is having is x64 Win XP not having the same things as x86 XP on the same machine Edward (31)
374208 2005-07-22 06:11:00 So its a 64 bit cpu on a 32 bit motherboard?

Me thinks you may need to read up a little more....

Thanks Metla. I thought so but there was just a tiny niggly little bit of doubt that almost gave me a blimmin' heartache for a moment. :p :D

374210 2005-07-22 13:04:00 No, thats right FoxyMX.

If it was WinXP 32-bit, then sure... Buy it, save the upgrade.. but you wont be getting any performance increase. In fact because its only a 32-bit OS, you're really likely to see a slower PC than normal.

x64 Windows is what I was talking about...
