| 374550 | 2005-07-23 01:21:00 | currently have a top of the range pc but the missus is ALWAYS kicking me off it to do her 'work'.. so was thinking of getting a 2nd machine, it needs to be nothing more than a machine that can browse the internet and do basic MS office stuff. So am i kidding myself when i don't wanna spend more than $500 for a complete system (monitor & peripherals)? It's just for $800 you can get a complete dell package from The Warehouse, and there's gotta be cheaper than that out there. Anyway, can people recommend anything? thank you |

It's a dell after all, and there's always cheaper than dell These Dell PCs are built down to a price, not up to a quality (though they would be just fine for your purposes). Given the ludicrously low markups in the retail sector on budget PCs, I seriously doubt you would see anything much cheaper. |

I've got two hand-me-downs at home cost me all of $00.00. Some people are pleased to move an old comp out of the house just to gain back some space......m:) | mark c (247) | ||
| 374555 | 2005-07-23 02:59:00 | DIck Smiths currently have a NZ built and supported system for $797.00 inc GST, it runs a Sempron 2.2 processor 256MB ram, 40GB Hard Drive,CDRW, 17CRT Monitor, Win XPHe. From what I have seen, One would be ideal for your stated requirements, they are vastly superior to the outdated (XP SP1, last time I looked) Dells the Warehouse are pushing. If interested the store code number is XC5566-17 Regards AC |

| 374556 | 2005-07-23 03:12:00 | Then theres Trademe and TradeF1. Whatever you get make sure it has at least some quality parts, don't have to be new expensive, old and quality is good. |

He is fairly reputable He's actually the owner of http://www.ptlcomputers.co.nz in Glenfield, Auckland. He specialises in ex-lease refurbished computers. That one above I think he is selling for around $365 in his shop. [noted by his buy now price] One similar to that, except 1.7Ghz, is on his website for $360. ... Edit: Good luck with communication if you do buy it. He's not this best communicator as he is Chinese and not too fluent in English. |
