374263 2005-07-22 07:01:00 my friend collects DVDs, and he often gets DVD's from America and the U.K but my powerDVD wants to lock me into a zone, is there any way around this lock feature? or should I just use another player? are there any good multi-zoned DVD players?
thanks for all your help, everyone here has helped me with heaps of problems and questions, thanks heaps!

374264 2005-07-22 07:15:00 Nope, thats what XP and 2000 do, everytime u put in different zoned dvds.

They give u so many times to change zones and it locks it after 4-5 changes.

There's this http://www.dvd-x-player.com/ but its only for 30 days I think until u register it.

It plays anything.

374265 2005-07-22 07:42:00 speedy is partly correct.

power dvd and the windows dvd region locking is easy to overcome. heaps of free tools around for that. the hard part is the actual dvd drive built in region locking. main way around that is to change the drives firmware. the other is to use special players which can get around it. however they cost $$ whicl firmware upgrades are free.

main way around that is to change the drives firmware You forgot to add that it can be risky to those who have never flashed a DVD drive before

Is it legitimate to flash and upgrade the drive's firmware? Are you referring to the Manufacturers' firmware upgrade or some other third party's firmware? Will this definitely overcomes the zoning problem?

Cheers

It'll be 3rd party firmware .

Its legit to update the firmware from the manufacturers site tho . There's firmware updates for cd burners and dvd burners . Some firmware updates fix known errors for some burners . . . .

I would use these (3rd party firmware updates that make a dvd region free) with caution . One bad flash . Byebye dvd / burner .

Manufacturers wouldnt make zone free flashes for dvd's if it wasn't region free in the first place .

The only dvd I know that was region free, was the ASUS E616 I think it was .

Well it was an ASUS DVD .

374269 2005-07-22 08:07:00 I use DVD Region-Free from www.dvdidle.com, but there is also anydvd from Slysoft.
These programs run in the background and act like virtual dvd drives. They by-pass the region zones on both the dvd drive and program (even if it's locked).

DrHill, Im with you.. DVD Region Free is a good app too, and I even convinced a workmate to purchase it.

374271 2005-07-22 14:32:00 I use DVD-RegionFree+CSS Free which works fine with WinDVD. Agent_24 (57)
374272 2005-07-22 22:28:00 Get DVD X Player, it is multi zone. I use it. If you know where to look you can get the Pro version for free.
