375125 2005-07-25 05:03:00 Hey all,

I am trying to write afunction to test that a username is valid and only contains
alphanumeric characters and the underscore character
as below

<?php
function isUsername($element) {
return !preg_match ("/[A-z0-9_-]/", $element);
}
?>

But When i try entering a username like say 'nigel' (sans quotes of course) it returns a fail

any suggestions would be much appreciated

<?php
function isUsername($element) {
return !preg_match ("/[a-zA-Z0-9_\-]/", $element);
}
?>

for some reason vin refs suggestion doesn't work

<?php
function isUsername($element) {
return !preg_match ("/[a-zA-Z0-9_\-]/", $element);
}
?>

it makes sense, but I can't get it work

thanks for the other link mejoebloggs, I'll read through that to see if I can make a function that works so I understand it
