375086 2005-07-25 03:51:00 I have developed a serious USB problem.
When playing vigorously in MS Flight Sim, doing aerobatics, after a few minutes the USB gives up and I have no keyboard or mouse. Yet my joystick (USB) still works.
Then half a minute later the whole thing freezes up and the screen becomes very, very badly distorted. I get a message saying "unidentified usb devices not recognised"
Then screen just goes blank . Nothing works.
The only solution is hold the stop button down for about two minutes and the thing turns off.
Press the start button and she boots up as if nothing had happened. Then up pops the message saying I have recovered from a serious error and do I want to tell Microsoft about it.

Get rid of that and start again. Few minutes later it all happens again.

All USB ports are usb 2 and are recognised as such. Mouse and keyboard are both usb 2.
Not overheating. I've been watching temp fairly closely and don't go above 45 degrees C.

It seems to me that it's just too much for usb to keep up with.

Any ideas anyone?

375087 2005-07-25 04:09:00 Either a faulty usb device or port, though my money is on it being a USB device, as they age some items start droping off the system, then get "re-discovered",windows tries to load on a driver but because it cant identify the device you get a hissy fit instead.

Presumibly its a loose wire in one of the devices.

(my idea of aging for a USB device is 1 year)

375088 2005-07-25 04:16:00 As you know M/B is only seven months old so it's inside your limit for old age.
Also I've swapped the usb ports around but the same thing happens regardless of which hole the mouse and keyboard are plugged in to.

375089 2005-07-25 04:23:00 My post was about the devices that run off USB rather then the ports themselves. Metla (12)

More details please. Don't understand what you mean. Can't find any power management "thingys".

375092 2005-07-25 06:18:00 Device manager / double click USB device, or hub entry / power management tab, if its there. Speedy Gonzales (78)
375093 2005-07-25 23:14:00 Work this out .
I have tried two different keyboards . 1 usb and the other a PS1 .
I tried a brand new mouse,usb .
Exactly the same problem . But now my computer freezes within five seconds of starting the game .

I uninstalled MS Flight Sim and reinstalled it . EXACTLY THE SAME!!!

It makes no difference where I start the game .

The problem only arises in the one game . Everything else works fine .

I have been playing with thisv game for a few months without this problem and the problem only arose a couple of days ago .

375095 2005-07-25 23:20:00 How many USB devices have you got?? Or using?

And are any USB devices running by power as well as being plugged into the USB port?
