374987 2005-07-24 22:51:00 I use Documents to Go to import about 2000 small word documents onto my Palm Tungsten T3, which I REALLY need for work.

Initially I used the free version of Docs to Go, and had a lot of trouble with fatal errors and data loss importing the Word documents to the Docs to Go desktop, but got there eventually, and things ran ok for about a year. Then I decided, trusting idiot that I am, to upgrade to the shiny new version of Docs to Go, which enables you to alter document content on the palm and have the changes then apply to the original Word documents on the desktop next time you syncrhonise.

The first thing that happened is that when I applied the upgrade, I lost all of the documents from the Docs to Go Desktop. It took 2 days to almost finish reloading (Docs to Go desktop slows down +++ after about 200 documents are loaded, so each document imported to the desktop takes up to a minute). Also you need to exit docs to go after each batch of documents is imported or if there is a fatal error you lose all data entered since the last save. (And fatal errors are legion - Docs to Go is such a memory hog (P4, 1 meg RAM) that moving the scroll bar on an open document causes a fatal error).
Anyway, this was stumbling along OK, but then when I was about 100 documents away from finishing, I closed the desktop Docs toGo screen after importing a batch of Word Docs, and when I reopened it, found I had lost the whole lot again.
I need these documents for work, and there isn't really a better alternative to Documents to Go.

I am submitting a query to DataViz, but more in hope than expectation, and haven't found anything useful on any forums or google.
Has anyone else had, and resolved, this problem?

One thing I tried was to disable all virus scanning and firewall software - didn't make any difference, although I couldn't get rid of McAfee McShield.exe, not even by trying to delete it from the list of running processes.
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer.

374988 2005-07-25 03:47:00 Ah this thread - couldn't see it before.
You really need the Plam for work or the documents?
Sounds like a right pain to me - if its just the docs you need, why not a portable HDD. Or maybe some other method of transferring the files if its the Plam you need.

374989 2005-07-25 03:59:00 As Documents to Go can read Native Office documents now, why not copy all the documents to a 1GD SD card from your PC directly via a USB SD Card reader.

Much better option.

374990 2005-07-25 05:40:00 Thanks for both of these replies. Unfortunately, I need the palm (don't always work near a computer) so a portable HDD wouldn't do, but the SD card is likely to fit my situation, will look into it. annie (6010)
