374660 2005-07-23 22:47:00 I have no use for the default folders in My Documents named My Music and My Pictures. After I delete them they keep returning next boot. Any idea how to pemanently get rid of them? Not a major worry of course, but I don't like Windows telling me what I can and can't do.

WinXP Pro SP1

Thx

374661 2005-07-23 23:09:00 Do u mean the icon on the desktop the links to them in the menu, or in my computer??

Somehow, I dont think u can kill the folders completely, without editing the registry.

374662 2005-07-24 00:17:00 I mean in Windows Explorer. And yeah, it's gotta be a reg hack somehow. Greg (193)
374663 2005-07-24 00:26:00 Type remove my pictures or my music in Google or Yahoo.

If u dont want to look at them, just hide them - make their folders hidden.

374665 2005-07-24 01:42:00 I think My pictures is used for things like digital cams, when u xfer pics etc .

And My music I think is part of Windows media player .

It may or may not complain, if u use WMP for something . If u try and delete the folder .

374666 2005-07-24 05:52:00 There will be a way, just depends upon how brutual you wish to get. You can try this from Start > Run:
Regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll
Reference (www.subdiv.net)

Looking at other comments about this on the net, you will need to reconfigure the applications that wish to write to these folders eg WMP and point the default directory to another location. Other suggestions mention that going deeper (registry hacking) than the above command may be required to stop the folders being recreated.

You can also move the locations of the My Music and My Picture folders elsewhere (think TweakUI can do this) so that they are not in your My Documents directory.
