| 374597 | 2005-07-23 08:54:00 | would creating a mix tape (or cd) of your fav tracks, and owning the original albums be legal? Much the same, perhaps? I dunno though dvdshrink would allow you to re-author it and get rid of chapters i guess, but that's about all im going to say just in case it is illegal :P |

Some say that once you buy/own a legal copy, it is yours to use as you see fit up to a point . You may reauthor the original into any order of events; you can change the colors, add or delete music etc, but you are required to keep the origination author/credits intact . By that I mean you are not allowed to change Walt Disney's name for your own as you are not the originator of the work, just a person reauthoring the original . You cannot take any credits for the creative content . Others say that ANY changes of format, sounds or reauthoring the original is a violation of the artist's intent and therefor an illegal activity . I personally take out the French, Czechoslovakian, Chinese and Japanese dialogs, and usually any previews and trailors and such that are just clutter to me . Sometimes I also remove the alternate camera angles too . I use DVD Shrink for the reauthoring work, and it has deeper allowances for excising scenes and dialog too . . . . but I personally don't go that far . |

| 374601 | 2005-07-23 20:39:00 | In New Zealand, the current law states that you may not copy (backup) or modify a commercial DVD movie . Bruce has made this point very clear in the past when the legalities of doing this was raised . You may read his comments here ( . pcworld . co . nz/showpost . php?p=242967&postcount=9" target="_blank">pressf1 . pcworld . co . nz) The question you asked John W about editing and reauthoring a commercial DVD movie is illegal and is not to asked nor answered on this forum . |

I thought In the US you could do all that as long as yoou didn't break any encryption or other copyright features on the disc |
