| 375046 | 2005-07-25 08:55:00 | now for the true story the father has 2 lines 1 for phones,1for fax and dial up on arrival i assessed the situation and advised the father he did not not need a splitter as only one jack point, and used his router to make an adsl connection using the supplied filter had he accepted this he would have saved $150 as we dont bill for work not done,he asked about installing the router,i quoted $130 if i didnt install a splitter,$50 if i did, standered telecom charges BILLED through telecom confused he phoned his son who i spoke to, and tried to explain the situation, he said he knew nothing about phones and wanted a splitter, then prcceded to ask my name ect wich didnt worry me,but if he want good advise thats his problem,i was just trying to save his father money the job was easy but i dont feel they got value for money as the only differance is they have an xtra jp with a hidden filter instead of an extension cord and plug in filter ps metla, change your name to meathead it suits :annoyed: |

The request was made for a splitter due to it being a marginal area, we got what we are after so its all sweet, the money isn"t an issue. |

| 375048 | 2005-07-25 09:15:00 | correct me if i'm wrong here but if you have 2 phones lines and you get adsl, most people would ditch the 2nd line. a adsl splitter would still be required. btw don't ya just love "chinese whispers" ;) |

| 375050 | 2005-07-25 09:40:00 | Given the explanation from Metla's new friend, does that mean that 'full install' is a huge con job by the monopolistic giant? Splitter in the wall is the same as splitter plugged into socket + $150? | wotz (335) | ||
| 375051 | 2005-07-25 09:58:00 | Lets hope national get rid of this monopoly. They just charged me $500 to connect phone, only to find that they had already been paid by section developer. We are getting a refund after tel. call. |

In your first post you say that the house wiring was up to spec. If so then the tech "in the batmobile" was out of order. AIAI a full install is that the tech comes out and fully installs everything and ensures it works. A marginal area can give problems as I am sure you know. I went to Auckland a while back with all I thought I would need to install an ADSL modem only to discover I was wrong. The customer had not told me that he uses 5 phone jacks and he had SKY and a burglar alarm which was monitored. This made life a little different. The Telecom agent there rewired the phone jacks and put a splitter in. I think the price at that time was $199.00 In this case I can't blame you for having a moan. |
