2005-07-27 00:24:00 | I've heard of some optical drives that allow you to burn a label directly on to the CD / DVD but can't find any info about them. can anyone help please? Henare

2005-07-27 00:28:00 | Its called Lightscribe. HP invented it. http://www.lightscribe.com/ There are a few burners now that support it, and Nero also supports it now, with the later / latest versions.

2005-07-27 00:32:00 | I haven't tried LightScribe but I hear it's VERY slow - like 25 to 45 minutes for one CD, depending on the complexity of the image/text. And you need LightScribe compliant media. Good idea but..... | braindead (1685) | |
2005-07-27 00:55:00 | Spoke to a Verbatim sales rep yesterday and she said wait a while before you go out and buy a lightscribe compatible writer. As braindead said, at the moment it takes about 25-45 minutes to burn the image. The Verbatim sales rep said they hope to have the time down to about 5 mins by the end of the year.

2005-12-04 03:04:00 | Has anyone got an update to the above posts? :) At this stage I don't have a printer that prints on CDs/DVDs - thought this might be an option, but the process seems to take a while.... I have a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW-1653S CD/DVD writer/burner. Looking at the Ascent site, there are a number of DVD+R media types available (as well as some CD). I usually use DVD-R and have had good success with them (reluctant to change what works for me!). Comments would be welcome... Cheers R.M.

2005-12-04 05:06:00 | one of the new BenQ dual layer dvd writers actually has the technology to burn a label onto the media that supports it...not sure how long it takes, but it's there if you want to look into it | GaRHaR (8607) | |
2005-12-04 05:17:00 | It's the Benq DW1625 The label burning takes me approx 23 minutes (under the latest Firmware) - that's with a label with graphics and the highest quality selected You need to be wary with the discs you buy though - I bought some Imation 52x CD's and the CD burner did not recognise them so I used my Lite-On CD writer to right the tracks then used the Benq to create the labels.

You just insert the cd into the special tray provided with the printer and it takes no longer than printing an A4 page of photos. Works well, if that's what I think u are looking for. | Tony S. | 375741 | 2005-12-04 07:07:00 | Printers (so far) don't burn, they print. And the Canon ip4000 I use does a damn fine job. Very fast, very economical - depending on how much of the cd/dvd surface is covered with colour graphics - and exceptionally crisp. The supplied software is simplicity itself to use. I was surprised at the quality. | braindead (1685) | ||
2005-12-04 08:50:00 | I had in mind to get a Canon Pixma 4200 printer when the "Back Pay" comes in... :) I just wondered about trying some Lightscribe discs in the meantime. Sounds pretty slow though. :(
