2005-07-25 11:34:00 | Hunting for new RAM. Will I really notice the CAS difference on a DDR400 512 stick? hoping to get this (ascent.co.nz) (ps. i got sent two sticks of 1GB ram - both faulty) Cheers hamstar

2005-07-25 13:05:00 | Depends if you want to overclock. If not get whatever ram you can afford. | memphis (2869) | |
2005-07-25 20:15:00 | I have been told that 2.5 is more stable and provides for better o/clocking if that's what you're after. (ps. i got sent two sticks of 1GB ram - both faulty) Bugger how did you get stuck with that RAW DEAL.... aren't they under warranty or something? cheers chiefnz

2005-07-25 23:47:00 | cas2 is faster. its nothing to do with overclocking as such. cas2 sticks cost more so most get a cas2.5 stick then "overclock" it to cas2, naturally running a cas2.5 stick at cas2.5 is more stable than when its "overclocked". there are other factors involved with overclocking ram. if your not into overclocking simply get the fastest ram you can even if its a speed faster than what your mobo will run.

2005-07-25 23:51:00 | i sent one faulty stick back, to have it replaced with another 1gb stick which was also faulty. Don't think the technology is quite refined yet... No one seemed to answer my question btw... will I notice the difference?

2005-07-26 00:05:00 | depends. generally yes. not so much pure speed but generally things run smoother. if your going for a fairly top end system then its well worth it.

2005-07-26 11:08:00 | btw, I will be running it with my overclocked xp2600 (@2300mhz) :D also, if i put say a 533mhz stick in, and my fsb is a 400mhz (asus a7v600) can I run it at 533mhz? overclock the fsb?

2005-07-26 11:54:00 | most late model mobo's can run ram bus seperatly from fsb speed ie 533 fsb and 400 ram and vice versa. not to sure with some chipsest eg amd 64's. check what speeds your mobo can run. | tweak'e (69) | |
